An internationally renowned plastic surgeon, Rod Rohrich, M.D., F.A.C.S. is regarded as one of the top plastic surgeons in the U.S. and the world. Dr. Rohrich is the founder of the plastic surgery program at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas and serves as its chairman and as a professor. Board certified in plastic surgery by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Rohrich helps his patients through his clinical practices at the Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute and the University Hospitals/UT Southwestern Medical School.
Dr. Rohrich grew up in North Dakota on a ranch. After graduating from high school, he completed his undergraduate education at the North Dakota State University. He then completed his postgraduate education at the University of North Dakota, graduating from both his undergraduate and postgraduate programs summa cum laude. Dr. Rohrich then commenced his medical studies at the Baylor College of Medicine, from where he graduated with highest honors. Following medical school, Dr. Rohrich completed his residency in plastic surgery at the University of Michigan, allowing him to work under the tutelage of several of the most respected plastic surgeons in the world. Following his residency, Dr. Rohrich furthered his education at the Massachusetts General Hospital at Harvard and at the Radcliffe Infirmary at Oxford University before accepting his first academic position at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas in 1986.
Beginning as an assistant professor in the division of plastic surgery, Dr. Rohrich rose through the ranks to become its chair in 1991. He then transformed the division into a full department, making it one of the first departments of plastic surgery in the nation. In addition to being a highly skilled educator, Dr. Rohrich is one of the best plastic surgeons in the world. He is also a gifted speaker and writer.
Dr. Rohrich has led more than 2,000 presentations about the various scientific aspects of plastic surgery, traveling around the world as a visiting professor. He is also the published author of five textbooks and more than 700 peer-reviewed articles. He also serves as the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and is the past president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. The residency program that he established in plastic surgery has been recognized by U.S. News and World Report as among the best and most sought after programs in the United States for medical students who wish to become plastic surgeons.
In addition to his dedication to his field, Dr. Rohrich is also dedicated to his community. A civic leader, Dr. Rohrich has served on the board of directors of multiple charitable organizations, including the Evergreen Gala Advisory Board, the March of Dimes, the American Cancer Society’s Dallas chapter and Save the Children – Dallas. Dr. Rohrich is also a founding member of the Dallas for Children Foundation and has served as an honorary co-chair of the organization together with his wife.
Dr. Rohrich has received numerous awards during his lengthy career in recognition of his work in plastic surgery and his charitable contributions. He has been featured on numerous national media programs, including The Today Show, the Oprah Winfrey Show and CNN. He has also been featured in such publications as the New York Times, the Dallas Morning News and the Wall Street Journal. Dr. Rohrich is dedicated to offering the highest level of compassionate care to all of his patients and to furthering the knowledge and education of others in his field.
