Jorge Moll: Neuroscientist and Inspiration

Neuroscientist Jorge Moll has a quite impressive record that includes degrees, leadership roles, and research contributions to the neuroscience field. He received his MD in neuroscience from the Federal University of Rio de Janiero Brazil. He later received his Ph.D in experimental pathophysiology from Sao Paulo University. In addition to earning his degrees, Moll founded and is president of the D’Or Institute of Research and Education and he also serves as director of the Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience Unit and Neuroinformatics Workgroup. His inspiration for creating the D’or Institute was to cultivate and promote scientific research, education, and healthcare in his home country, Brazil.

Through working with the D’Or institute and serving on boards, Moll has the opportunity to collaborate with others and make a difference in the neuroscience field.  He has had his research published in journals such as Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Trends in Science, and Neuroimage to name a few.

Characteristic of Success

There are a number of different qualities and skills that have contributed to Moll’s success. To increase productivity, he personally strives to be transparent, open, and skillful. These qualities as well as his belief that we have the power to change our realities and positively affect lives and industries by simply doing interesting things, have helped him achieve success and recognition in neuroscience. In addition to these values, Moll has a habit that he advises people to practice to be successful in business endeavors. He recommends that people always question their model and avoid repeating the same thing over and over again. If he could give advice to his younger self, he would tell him not to hold onto to ideas for too long; either pursue an idea or move swiftly on to the next one. To conclude, I will leave you with one of his favorite quotes by Da Vinci: ” Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication”.
