Sawyer Howitt is an aspiring entrepreneur who lives in Portland, Oregon. While he is a senior at Lincoln High School, he is already on the path to continuing his family’s entrepreneurial spirit. While he is primarily focused on his studies, he has also started working and developing the business skills he will need to fulfill his ambitions in life.
Sawyer Howitt’s first job was when he was 16 years old. He worked customer service at Kure Juice bars. In this position, he learned about how important this type of roles are at company’s as this is the face that most people see when doing business with any company. In 2015 he joined Meriwether Group, a company that his father, David Howitt, founded and serves as the Chief Executive Officer of. Sawyer was a Business Strategy Analyst. He worked with a collection of executives at Meriwether Group where he focused on revolutionizing retail through RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) Checkout technology. This type of technology will completely change how people interact with retail stores as, instead of going through a checkout line, sensors in the store will determine what a person is leaving a store with automatically. They will then have their credit cards charged for what they are purchasing which will be stored on a smartphone app.
In 2017, Sawyer Howitt became a Project Manager at Meriwether Group. He has continued with projects that seek to change how commerce will work in the future as well as how business development will need to adapt to continuing technological changes. His focus continues on making shopping at a retail store both more convenient than it currently is as well as much faster.
In order to further his career as an entrepreneur, Sawyer Howitt is set to attend the University of California, Berkeley, in the fall of 2017. At this institution, he plans on graduating from their Entrepreneurial Finance degree program. He is not only learning a lot about entrepreneurship not just from his father but other executives at Meriwether Group and the entrepreneurs they help build their own successful companies.
